Dolphin Reports

Dolphin Report - April, 2013

What a shocker of a month! We are still seeing dead fish and dolphins washing up with little to no answers as to why.

Water visibility in close to shore is dismal – only 2-4 meters. Most dolphins have moved away from the area, leading to poor interaction and unhappy customers.

Very upsetting to see more of these beautiful mammals being affected by this environmental issue.

Dolphin Report - March, 2013

What a strange month! We started March very well with excellent swims – On the 20th of March unseasonal strong westerly winds hit our coast for three weeks straight, destroying all viability.  To make matters worse our local dolphins moved away from the area so there were fewer pods to find and the water was dirty.

In the later part of the month dead fish started washing up in their tens of thousands, which was followed by a large number of dead dolphins. This received a lot of media attention resulting in the South Australian Government appointing scientist to try and find the course, no result as of yet.

Dolphin Report - February, 2013

February is usually a below average month for dolphin interaction but not this year. The increase of interaction is due to the lower than average dolphins being born this February compared to previous years.

Dolphins have been down south in the clean water, making for good swims. The last week in February visibility declined due to strong winds

Dolphin Report - January, 2013

January started off well with good dolphin interaction; unfortunately this didn’t last with the end of January encountering westerly winds and grey clouds. This was caused by the weather generated by the cyclone that past by Western Australia. This weather caused the water to become quiet dirty, so to try and get clearer water we were forced to head south. Heading south moved us away from the local pods of dolphins, so while the water was clearer the interaction was less.

Dolphin Report - December, 2012 Dolphin Swim

December started off well with plenty of interaction. Dolphin interaction decreased as the boat traffic increased towards the later part of the month. The increased boat traffic, from the holiday season, is a problem every year. Not to mention the increase of commercial fishing boats. Late December the dolphins are mainly seen out deep, making them hard to spot.

The plus side is that out deep the water visibility is always great and dolphin pod sizes are generally big.

Dolphin Report - November, 2012 Dolphin Swim

November like always was another fantastic month for dolphin interaction.
The beginning of the month brought Common dolphins out wide.

The water visibility and weather was consistently clear, allowing great underwater visuals. Plenty of dolphins down South and penguins were spotted feeding right along the coastline. No Seal were spotted during November.

Dolphin Report - October, 2012 Dolphins

October was an excellent month for interaction; we saw a lot of dolphins including common dolphins in large pods. The visibility was good; however we did have some heavy rain which did murk the water up for about a week after. The water temperature has been pretty mild considering previous years.

Dolphin Report - September, 2012

September was a little windy but luckily we had plenty of dolphins around.
We had some great interaction from the

Dolphin Swim

common dolphins on the first eight trips of the season which
was great to see as we generally don’t see them until November.

Dolphin Report - June, 2012

June has been very similar to May with great interaction from the dolphins. Cruises stopped operating the second Saturday of the month as the boat came out of the water early to give the boat a good tidy-up.
